Abstract

902,426. Thermal switches. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Sept. 10, 1959 [Sept. 19, 1958], No. 30938/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXV] The glow switch starter 5<SP>1</SP> and a serially connected rectifier 4<SP>1</SP> which form the ignition arrangement for a fluorescent lamp are situated in a housing 12 to form a single structural unit which may be gas-filled. The glow switch 5<SP>1</SP> comprises two bimetallic members 13, 14 and the rectifier may be a PN junction. Alternatively the housing 12 may have two compartments, one holding the glow switch and the other the rectifier which latter compartment may be filled with nitrogen. A thermistor 26 may also be housed with the rectifier. In another embodiment the rectifier 4<SP>1</SP> and the thermistor 26 may be placed in a casing 27 which is attached to a further casing 12 holding the glow switch 5<SP>1</SP> by two members 28, 29, held together by a spring 30. The casing 27 includes two sleeves, one 31 of which is of insulating material, the other 32 being electrically conductive. If desired, a condenser 9<SP>1</SP> may also be accommodated in the casing 27.
