Abstract

902,264. Gyro-compasses. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO. Ltd. Jan. 27, 1961 [Jan. 29, 1960], No. 3235/60. Class 97 (3). In a gyro-compass of the kind in which the rotor-bearing casing 1, or a gimbal ring supporting it, is pivotally supported about a vertical axis from another member, such as a vertical ring 2, by bearings 3, 4 and a tension wire 5 which is connected at the top (not shown) to a member 6 fixed to ring 2 and at its lower end to a bush 10 secured to the casing 1, clamping means are provided to secure the casing 1 to ring 2 in predetermined position when it is desired to remove the wire 5 during servicing of the compass. As shown, tapped holes 14, 15, 16, 17 in ring 2 register with depressions 18, 19, 20, 21, in casing 1, so that on inserting screws into the tapped holes 14, 15 until they engage depressions 18, 19, the wire 5 is relieved of weight whereupon by inserting screws into holes 16, 17 to engage depressions 20, 21, the casing 1 is firmly held relative to ring 2.
