810,280. Gyroscopic apparatus. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. March 10, 1954 [March 12, 1953], No. 6904/53. Class 97(3) In a gyroscope suspension system, random wander due to horizontal bearing friction is reduced by supporting the inner gimbal on wires from the outer gimbal. As shown, the inner gimbal 14 is supported in the outer gimbal 23 by the bearings 15, 16 and the wires 34, 35.The bearing members 17, 18 are held in engagement with 14 by the frame 26, 27, 30, 31. Wires 34, 35 engage the gimbal 14 below the horizontal axis through bearings 17, 18, in order that bending of the suspension wires, due to turning of the gimbal 14, does not cause the application of a precessional torque-to the gyroscope.
