901,912. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 9, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 22056/59. Class 42 (1). A method of welding thermoplastic sheets comprises the steps of placing the sheets together in a stack on a block, applying to the free surface of the stack a release fluid which resists the adhesion of the thermoplastic to a heated body applied thereto and pressing the heated body and the block together to weld the sheets. Two sheets of polythene are placed on the block and the apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is rolled on to them so that a wick 42 saturated with the fluid, preferably a silicone release fluid, deposits a layer thereon. A heated face 17 of a shoe 11 is urged downwardly by springs 21, 22, 24 against the sheets to weld them. The face 17 is heated by an element 26 which together with an adjustable switch 27 is connected to a junction-box 31 connected to an indicator lamp 35 beneath a window 37. A sheet of polytetrafluoroethylene may be placed between the surface of the sheets and the face 17 or the face 17 may be coated with this substance.
