Abstract

901,747. Moulding bladders. MERCIER, J. Nov. 4, 1958, No. 35416/58. Class 87(2). A mould for forming bladders has a base 11 and a cover 12 with recesses 17, 28 which together define the mould cavity 30, the cover 12 having a bore 26 in communication with the cavity, and a core 13 having a stem portion 33 extending through the cover bore 26 and a body portion 32 in the mould cavity, the stem 33 having a transverse chamber 35 between its ends in communication with the mould cavity and a longitudinal channel 34 leading from the outer end of the stem into the transverse chamber 35. Longitudinal grooves 36 provide this communication. The mould is charged with a quantity of material such as unvulcanised rubber, natural or synthetic, slightly greater than that required to form the article, closed by means of a hydraulic press (not shown), and then locked by means of screws 38. The excess material at least partially fills the chamber 35 so that by forcing a fluid under pressure through channel 34, the material in the mould is maintained under compression even if some should escape by seepage between the base 11 and cover 12, thus preventing the formation of voids or air pockets.
