[Also in Group XXXVII] In a road and vehicle toy, a vehicle 60, Fig. 7, has depending pins 64 and 66 which pass through a slot 172, 173, Fig. 8, in a base and engage a resilient screw in the form of a helical spring 138, Fig. 1A, which is rotated by an electric motor 130 to propel the vehicle over the base. The screw is located in a channel beneath the base and is looped as shown in Fig. 1A. Points 161, stamped out of sheet metal, are provided at track junctions, located in recesses 168 in the track surface and can be pivoted to cover one or other lengths 138 or 140, Fig. 3, of the screw. The electric motor is battery driven and has a switch 154 (see Group XXXVII) which allows the vehicle to be driven forward at different speeds or in reverse. The track is raised at 220 and supported on relatively high side walls 222. Two vehicle tracks may be arranged side by side and the vehicles driven in opposite directions. In such a case, there may be two screws driven from a common motor, one being lefthanded and the other right-handed. The base may be moulded from a plastics material which is either yieldable, e.g. polyethylene, or rigid. The vehicle, which has convex-shaped projections 62 simulating wheels, may be also moulded from plastics material which is either yieldable such as polyethylene, or rigid, in which latter case a partition 68 bearing the pins 64 and 66 is formed separately from polyethylene so that the pins are yieldable.
