Abstract
901,464. Ultrasonic whistles. SPIN-SOC. DE PROCEDES INDUSTRIELS NOUVEAUX. Dec. 3, 1958 [Dec. 3, 1957; Sept. 27, 1958], No. 39016/58. Class 13. [Also in Group II] Resonant cavities are formed by stacking sheets so that cut-out portions of alternate sheets are bonded by imperforate portions of intervening sheets. Thus cavities 30 are formed between sheets 38, Fig. 12, of stainless steel when stacked alternately with sheets 37, Fig. 11, of polytetrafluorethylene. The cavities serve as Galton's whistles which set the fluid into vibration at ultrasonic frequencies. The arrangement may be used for mixing fluids, for cleaning metallic wires or for sintering metallic powders. Corresponding apertures 40, 39 and 42, 41 in sheets 37, 38 form ducts 28, 33, Fig. 7, for the supply and withdrawal of fluid. The stack is held between stainless steel end-plates 46, Fig. 16, by means of bolts 47, or may be held together by epoxy resin. Fluids to be mixed are supplied through inlets 45, Figs. 13, 16, in discs 44 in the middle of the stack and the mixture is withdrawn through the manifold 54. The sheets 37 may be so stacked as to provide clockwise and anticlockwise circulation of the fluid alternately in the central duct 33. The arrangement may be used for cleaning a wire W running along the duct 33. A number of patterns like that on Fig. 11 may be cut in each sheet 37 of a stack. Sheets may be stacked so as to radiate from a central cylindrical duct into which the fluid is discharged. In Figs. 3, 4 each stack 4 of cut-out strips is closed at the sides by V-shaped plates fastened to the sides of the stacks by clamps 4m, leaving apertures (not shown) for the fluid to enter the cavities 5 from the input 12. The fluid flows from cavity 5 into cavity 6 and discharges into the central duct through outlet 7. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, fluid entering inlet 20a flows through orifices 17a and chamber 17 and is directed into cavities 18 by a conical head on shaft 16.
