Abstract

901,298. Frequency dividers. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. April 12, 1961 [April 12, 1960], No. 13174/61. Class 106 (1). When the main counter is being reset at the completion of a predetermined count the incoming pulses are switched to an auxiliary counter, and when the auxiliary counter has reached a predetermined count the incoming pulses are again fed to the main counter. The frequency F1 to be divided is fed through gate 4 to the main counter 2 which has been set at a predetermined starting point by selectors 3. When the counter 2 is full it issues an output pulse F2. Simultaneously it signals 3 to reset the main counter. However, as this may take a time sufficient to lose some of the input pulses, the output pulse is arranged to operate gate 4 so that the input pulses are directed to auxiliary counter 5. When the auxiliary counter is full it restores gate 4. The presetting of selectors 3 takes account of the capacity of counter 5. Control of selectors 3 may be effected at a predetermined state of counter 5. In the modification of Fig. 3, counter 5 may be preset through selectors 6 at a certain stage of the count in the main counter 2. The inclusion of a ring counter 7 with one or more outputs between the main and auxiliary counters permits frequency division by a number including a fraction.
