Abstract

900,547. Inductive signalling and control of apparatus; transporter apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. June 19, 1959 [June 25, 1958], No.. 21115/59. Class 40 (5). In an electrical system for the identification of mobile objects, each of which has a pick-up circuit and an oscillator of distinctive frequency, a transmitter and selective receivers responsive respectively to said oscillators are placed in proximity to the path of said objects, each of the pickup circuits receiving energy from said transmitter when near it and providing sufficient direct current to remove its associated oscillator operative for a time ending later than that in which said pick-up circuit is near said transmitter. The mobile objects may be, for example, trams or railway coaches. The radiated energy which is of mains frequency is picked up by circuit L 1 , rectified at RE, smoothed, and powers a transistor oscillator having coupled windings on a ferrite core in the collector and base circuits, the collector circuit being characteristically tuned by capacitor C. In order to recognise the direction of travel of the object, it first passes through a 50 c/s. field before passing the receiver and thus the latter will react immediately, whereas if the direction is reversed the object will not react until after it has passed the receiver's immediate vicinity.
