Abstract

A solution directly utilisable for textile printing is prepared by adding an organic solvent miscible with water to an aqueous mixture containing a caustic alkali, an azoic coupling component and a diazoamino compound containing mineral salts resulting from its preparation, allowing the mixture to settle and separating the upper less dense layer which contains the diazoamino compound, the coupling component and the caustic alkali from the lower more dense layer which contains the mineral salts. The diazoamino compounds may be obtained from diazotised p-toluidine, 1-amino-2-methyl-5 (or -4-)-chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2-methyl-4 : 5- dichlorobenzene, 1-amino-2-methoxy-5- chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2-methyl-5- dimethyl-sulphonamido-benzene, 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-diethylsulphonamido-benzene, 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-nitrobenzene, 4-N-phenylamino-1- aminobenzene and 41-methoxy-4-phenylamino-1-aminobenzene and (as stabilisers), sarcosine, 2-carboxy-phenylglycine, 4 : 6-dichloro-2- carboxy-phenylglycine, 2-hydroxyethylamino- 5-bromo-benzoic acid, 5-sulpho-2-ethylaminobenzoic acid and 5-sulpho-2-isopropylaminobenzoic acid. Specified coupling components are the arylides of 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid, 2-hydroxy-3-carboxy carbazole and acetyl acetic acid. Specified solvents are ethylene-, diethylene-, and propylene-glycols, thiodiglycol, dioxane and the monoethyl, monomethyl or monobutyl ethers of ethylene-or diethylene-glycol. The solution may also contain a volatile amine such as diethylaminoethanol, di- or tri-ethanolamine and piperidine. In examples, the solutions, thickened with the usual thickeners, are printed on fabrics and the prints developed in neutral or acid steam.
