In a rotary printing press having spaced vertical frames 25, each frame has an aperture 26 and a passage 28 leading from the aperture to the frame edge, there being an arm 30 pivotally connected to the frame below the mouth of the passage and swingable between vertical and horizontal positions in which it respectively (a) closes the passage mouth, and (b) extends outwardly from the frame to form a support for a cylinder shaft 18 which is to be placed in or removed from said aperture. The shaft 18 carries a " slinger " 20 for preventing any ink leak from the cylinder surface 14a and surrounding ink bath to the roller bearing 29 and a sleeve 19 on which the bearing is mounted. The aperture 26 is lined with a rotatable bearing seat 38 having a gap through which the cylinder shaft and associated bearing 29 and sleeve 19 is passed when the seat is in a position with the gap facing the mouth of the passage. Through a mechanism comprising a hand wheel 46, chain 44, a gear-wheel 42 and a segment of gear teeth 40 secured to the seat 38 the latter is rotated such that the gap, which has been closed by a suitably-shaped bearing member 39 slid into place along the passage 28, is in the upper position shown in Fig. 7, when the cylinder is in its operative position. Ink seal parts 52, 53 are associated with the bearing seats 38, 39 the forme part 52 being bolted to the frame 25 around the aperture 26 whilst the latter part 53 is integral with a block 51 which is slid into the passage after the cylinder shaft &c and the closure member 39 to (a) reinforce the frame structure around the passage, and (b) securely locate the cylinder shaft &c. in the bearing seats in the aperture. The arm 30 is vertically disposed during press operation, a spring-urged latch member 80 on the block engaging a cross-pin 84 on the arm. Downward movement of the arm by grasping a handle 68 thereon also initially moves the block 51 outwardly through the engaged latch and cross-pin to break any ink seal &c. that may have arisen between the parts 52, 53. The cross-pin swings clear of the latch as the arm 30 is moved into its horizontal position. The arm is held in the vertical position by interengaging readily releasable spring-urged pin 69 and a hole 70 on the frame and arm, respectively. In order to readily remove the cylinder from the press a loadbearing rail 35 is pivotally mounted adjacent the lower edge of the passage 28 to move into an upper and a lower position, movement into the former being effected automatically as the arm 30 is lowered into the horizontal position through the engagement of a cam member 74 integral with the pivot mounting pin 65 of the arm and the lower edge of the rail 35. The upper surface of the horizontal arm is formed with parallel rails 34, 31, the former being horizontally aligned with the raised rail 35 whilst the latter is offset such that when the cylinder is totally withdrawn from the aperture to the limit allowed by the upturned end 31a of the rail 31 the bearing 29 and sleeve 19 may be readily removed from the shaft 18, the cylinder being solely supported by the rails 31. With the cylinder withdrawn and removed the bearing 29 is stored in a hinged pocket 32 whilst the block is slidably mounted beneath the horizontal arm.
