Abstract

899,981. Laminates. ZELLSTOFFABRIK WALDHOF. Aug. 4, 1960 [Aug. 11, 1959], No. 27030/60. Class 140. Coated paper impermeable to water-vapour, gas and fat, and resistant to chemicals is manufactured by attaching a biaxially stretched film of low pressure polyethylene to the paper by means of an extruded layer of high pressure polyethylene. A further coating of high pressure polyethylene may be applied to the other side of the low pressure polyethylene. The low pressure polyethylene is protected from the radiant heat of the extruder by carrying the film round the cooling cylinder of the extruder so that it encircles it by an amount subtending an angle of at least 90 degrees. The extruder nozzle is heated to 270-320 degrees for the introduction of the intermediate layer, and to 240-280 degrees for the application of the outer layer of high pressure polyethylene. Low pressure polyethylene film of width narrower than the sheet of paper may be used so that the finished material has a margin of paper coated with high pressure polyethylene, which can serve for gluing the edges of the material in the formation of pouches, paper bags, or tubes.
