Abstract

899,793. Heat-treatment furnaces. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 27, 1961 [March 4, 1960], No. 7795/60. Class 51 (2). A heat-treatment furnace comprises a treatment chamber 1 with a bottom opening 2 through which a charge basket 7 on a platform 8 moves vertically, the platform being rotatable about a vertical axis to deposit the basket on fixed supports 20. A fan 6 circulates atmosphere gas over electric or fuel-fired heating elements, Fig. 2 (not shown). A thermallyinsulated roller door 4 separates chamber 1 from a charging and purging vestibule 3 which is above and integral with a quench tank 14 containing a motor-driven agitator 16 under a topplate 17, heating or cooling coils 18 and a duct 19 by which quenchant, driven by the agitator through the coils is discharged through basket 7. The platform 8 is rotatably mounted by a spindle 9 in bearings 10 on an elevator bracket running in a vertical track outside the furnace. Each basket is passed through a sliding door 22 over a roller table 21 on to the platform 8 in the charging and purging vestibule and the platform is then raised into the treatment chamber 1, rotated and lowered to deposit the basket on supports 20.
