Abstract
899,516. Viewing equipment for radioactive environment CORNING GLASS WORKS. Feb. 26, 1960 [March 4, 1959], No. 6891/60. Class 39(4). In order to facilitate viewing regions in a chamber which lie on the border of a thick radiation protection window 11 an additional double glazed window is provided having panes 22, 32, the pane 32 being mounted by gimbals 36, 37 and 41, 42 so that it may move in horizontal and vertical planes. The peripheries of the panes 22, 32 are sealed to the ends of a bellows 31 and the bellows is filled with a fluid having a high refractive index whereby the rays of light entering the chamber through the window 11 may be bent by moving the pane 32 to increase the visible area of the chamber. As shown, the pane 32 is pivoted by pins 36, 37 to a frame 40 pivoted by pins 41, 42 to fixed arms 43, 44, the frame being moved by a motor 51 mounted on the arm 44 and having driving gears 47, 48. The pane 32 is similarly moved about pins 36, 37 by a motor 50 mounted on the frame 40 and driving the pane through a sector gear 54.
