Abstract
899,005. Moulding glass. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 24, 1958 [Oct. 24, 1957], No. 30498/58. Class 56. [Also in Group XXXVI] To make a lamp base comprising shell, 2 centre contact 10 and glsss insulator 9, the shell and contact are placed in the mould 33, into which moulten glass is dropped through flange 8 and then pressed into shape by plunger 34. The plunger has an annular skirt 35 which closely surrounds edge 18 of flange 8. Skirt 35 and end 36 of the plunger are so shaped as to force the glass into notches 19 in edge 18 to form the portion 17 of the insulator. Good results are obtained when the depth of the glass, covering edge 18, is twice the wall thickness. Glass in the hole of contact 10 is cleared by vertical reciprocable punch and the base removed from the mould.
