Abstract
898,946. Electric copying machines. VYSKUMNY USTAV PRE MECHANIZACIU A AUTOMATIZACIU. Nov. 26, 1958 [April 25, 1958], No. 38113/58. Class 38 (6). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electro-erosive cutter is automatically guided to cut a predetermined profile by signals from a photo-cell which is scanning a drawing, and the speed of movement is controlled in accordance with the magnitude of the erosion current. An undisclosed photo-electric scanner is said to produce two sets of pulses 15, 19, phase modulated in accordance with deviations from the drawing. The pulses are applied to the grids of a double triode 11 forming a cathode follower with two inputs and a common output. The triodes are, in an undisclosed manner, biased to cut-off; but this bias is opposed by two voltages applied at 23, 24 and derived from an undisclosed source which is responsive to the magnitude of the erosion current. The output of the valve 11 thus consists of pulses modulated in phase for directional control and in amplitude for speed control. The pulses are given a sinusoidal shape by a tuned circuit 33, and are applied via a power amplifier 27 to two electromechanical discriminators 28, 29 which control hydraulic servomotors for the X and Y axis movements of the cutter. The discriminators (see Group XXXVI) consist of an E-shaped iron core carrying a coil excited from an A.C. reference source of the same frequency as the repetition frequency of the control pulses, and a coil carrying the control pulses moving axially within the air gap of the core. The axial displacement of the moving coil is thus proportional to the phase and amplitude of the pulse signal relative to the reference. By energizing the two reference coils 90 degrees out of phase, the control signals can be resolved along the X and Y axes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 824,001.
