Abstract

898,758. Fuel elements. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Jan. 25, 1961 [Jan. 29, 1960], No. 3360/60. Class 39(4). The vertical fuel members 1 are carried in graphite sleeve 7 within the graphite housing 8. The extension 4 is slidably carried at the upper end of 8. The connecting member 20 is screwed to 4 at 19 and is attached to the supporting member 22 by the ball latch 21. The thermocouple leads 23 are attached to the beryllium fuel cans. The fuel members I, sleeve 7 and housing 8 are supported at the lower end by the collet 13 secured to the end of tie-rod 2. The boss 33 at the upper end of 2 is gripped in the latch members 24 which are urged into engagement about the pins 25 by the weight of the fuel members and housing.
