Abstract

898,605. Portable buildings, building frames. HILLS (WEST BROMWICH) Ltd. June 18, 1958, No. 19447/58. Classes 20(1) and 20(2) A metal framework for a portable building comprises stanchions 1 supported in base plates 2, ties 3 and 5 extending between adjacent stanchions and roof trusses 6, all the members permanently embodying fittings whereby corresponding members are secured together in a readily detachable manner. The stanchions comprise four angle members 10, Fig. 7, joined at their base by members 12 and along their length by cylindrical straps 11 (Fig. 18) and are formed to fit into a square cup 18 on the base member 2 which is pinned to the ground through slots 4. To lock the stanchion in position a key 15 rotates a bar 16 which engages the undersurface of angle members 19 fixed to the base plate. The ties 3 are held in position by arrow heads 31 disposed through slots 20a. Cladding 67 comprises lips 68 to engage the stanchions and tongues 72 to engage slots 71. Weathering strips 74 are held in place by bridge clips 73. The roof trusses are formed from a number of parts joined together by a stud 46, Fig. 11, and slot 45 connection and gables 8 are hung from the trusses as shown in Fig. 1 in order that the stanchions may all be of the same length. The ends of the roof trusses are connected to the stanchions by fixing to them two U-shaped channels 41, Fig. 10, which slidably engage two adjacent flanges of the angle part 10 of the stanchions.
