Abstract
898,356. Fibrous products; woven fabrics. CARBORUNDUM CO. Oct. 16, 1958 [Oct. 24, 1957], No. 33111/58. Drawings to Specification. Classes 120(3) and 142(4) [Also in Groups VIII and XXV] Fibrous or textile products are made from a blend of fibres consisting by weight of between 10 and 95% of fibres of an aluminium silicate, the remainder being other fibres that will carry the silicate through a carding machine. The carrier fibres may be acrylic, cellulosic (including rayon) protein, cotton, wool, asbestos, glass, nylon, tetrafluoroethylene, polyamides, and vinyls; the aluminium silicate may contain up to 50% of oxides such as zirconia, thoria or boron oxide, and the products are particularly suitable for high temperature applications and may be woven, non-woven or knitted in such forms as herringbone weave cloth, tubular woven fabric, laminating and other paper, batts, felt, yarn, cords and ropes, reinforced in some cases with inserts of yarns of glass, asbestos or alloy wire; blankets, furnace curtains, fire-screens, heat-insulation, gasfilters, laundry cloth packings and lagging are given as uses. Particular percentages of silicate by weight the rest being asbestos in each case, with the temperature ranges in degrees Fahrenheit for which they are suitable are: for 1000-1400, 10-40%; for 1400-1800, 40-60%; for 1800-2300, 60-90%. A blend of 15-30% silicate with rayon is also mentioned. Specifications 852,146 and 898,357 are referred to.
