Abstract

898,246. Hose pipes. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. March 24, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 10829/61. Class 99(2). A hose adapted to dampen pressure pulsations of the material therewithin comprises an elastomeric tube 11, a reinforcing strand 13 coiled along the length of the hose constructed and arranged to prevent substantial diametric expansion of the hose, the strand having adjacent turns thereof spaced apart a distance sufficient to permit diametrical expansion of the portions of the hose wall therebetween, and a reinforcing material for the hose bridging the spaces between adjacent turns of the coiled strand. Each element in the hose wall between adjacent turns of the coiled strand permits diametrical expansion of the hose wall between adjacent turns, and the hose wall between adjacent turns of the coiled strand is elastically stretchable longitudinally and transversely of the hose, whereby the hose may expand diametrically between adjacent turns of the coiled strand to dampen pressure pulsations of the material therewithin. As shown, the hose comprises a tube 11 of neoprene rubber, two layers 12 of leno weave fabric, each layer being cut on a 45 degree angle bias and dip-coated with neoprene rubber cement, and a spring steel wire helix 13, the spacing of the turns of the helix being not greater than the internal radius of the hose. Over the helix are disposed three layers 16 of fabric and a cover 17 of rubber. The entire hose assembly is vulcanised. Rubber strips 14 of wedgeshaped cross-section abut the wire.
