1409096 Hoses; hose connectors EXXON PRODUCTION RESEARCH CO 27 Nov 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 54654/72 Headings F2P and F2G A flexible hose, which may have an end connector 19, comprises a tubular, corrugated, metallic linear 12 having transverse ridges and troughs, elastomeric material 11 on at least the outer surface of the liner 12, first and second layers 28, 29 of wire helically wound with opposite layer angles, and elastomeric material 43 over the second layer of wires 29. In one embodiment, as shown, the metal liner 12, e.g. of stainless steel, is embedded in a sheath 11 of elastomeric material, e.g. urethane. An annular end section 17 on the liner 12 is welded in a recess 18 on the connector 19. Layers of elastomer impregnated meshed fabric 27 are helically wound up to the diameter of a flange 24. The ends 30, 36 of the wire layers 28, 29 are clamped to the connector 19 by a ring 31 and tube 37 having radial grooves 33, 39 in end faces and which are tightened and locked by nuts 34, 40 and set screws 35, 41. Annular grooves 42 in the tube 37 contain soft solder or epoxy which melts when the hose is vulcanized to seal spaces between the wires 28, 29. Further layers of elastomer impregnated fabric plies 43 are wound over the wires and these are also protected by a cover 44. An end cap 45 on the connector 19 is sealed to the cover 44 by epoxy cement. A further embodiment includes an additional helically wound flat spring (46) (Fig. 2, not shown) over the outside of the sheath 11.
