Abstract

898,013. Electric selective signalling. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Jan. 1, 1960 [Jan. 2, 1959], No. 60/60. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XL (a)] An arrangement wherein a large number of elements (e.g. fuel channels of a nuclear reactor) are to be supervised and wherein the elements are divided for supervision purposes into bundles and groups of bundles, bundles of the same order of sequence being simultaneously and cyclically supervised in all groups, and the elements in a bundle found to be suspect being tested one by one, is characterised in that the serial number of the bundle, group and element suspected are separately and successively indicated. The fuel channels of a nuclear reactor may be arranged in twelve groups of 96 channels, each group being subdivided into 24 bundles of four channels ; the bundles are identified by numbers F1 to F24 within each group and the channels by the letters a, b, c, d within each bundle. The channels are tested by testing all the a channels in bundles Fl, then all the b channels in bundles F2 and so on. Fig. 3 shows a circuit for indicating the number of a suspected bundle. When a fault occurs in one of the groups, one of the twelve contacts DIDXII makes and energizes relay 12 which holds itself on through contact 12A and starts motor 15 through contact 12B. Motor 15 drives a contact arm 16 over twenty-four studs (one for each bundle) until it finds a stud carrying a potential, when relay 14 operates. Motor 15 also drives an arm 22 over twenty-four studs, and the position of arms 16 and 22 when the motor stops correspond to the defective bundle. Relay 14 stops motor 15 through contact 14B, cuts off relay 12 through contact 14A, and energizes relay 13 through contact 14C. Relay 13 holds itself on and energizes relay 17 which starts motor 5. Motor 5 drives an arm 21 until it meets the contact corresponding to that of arm 22 when relay 19 operates and stops the motor. Motor 5 also turns a drum (Fig. 1, not shown) carrying an indicator board until it indicates the defective bundle number. A similar circuit (Fig. 4, not shown) causes the group number to be shown on the indicator board. The reference letter of the channel can be shown on the board by shining a light through it.
