Abstract

An aqueous gel comprises 25 to 40 gms. per 100 ccs. of water of a polyglycol of the formula HO-(C2H4O)x-C3H6O) y-(C2H4O)z-H where y is 25 to 31 and x+z is 130 to 170. These polyglycols are described in Specification 731,603, and a suitable one is sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Pluronic F-68" and has a molecular weight between 7,500 and 9,000. The gels are electrically conductive and this property may be improved by minor amounts of soluble alkaline earth or alkali metal salts of strong inorganic acids, e.g. NaCl, CaCl2 or Na2SO4. Uses: Contact pastes for electrography, cosmetics, medical lubricants, excipient for ointments (see Group VI).ALSO:Aqueous gels which are used as electrographic contact pastes, pharmaceutical excipients, lubricants and cosmetics (e.g. hair-fixing compositions) comprise 25 to 40 gms. per 100 c.c. of water of a polyglycol of the formula HO-(C2H4O)x-(C3H6O) y-(C2H4O)z-H where y is 25 to 31 and x+z is 130 to 170. These polyglycols are described in Specification 731,603, and a suitable one is sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Pluronic F-68." Also described is an anti-rheumatic ointment (Example 4) comprising "Veratrole," menthol and chloral in the gel.
