Abstract
897,522. Electrically-released switches; electromagrietic relays.. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1959 [Feb. 6, 1958], No. 3892/58. Class 38 (5). A relay has a single core and two armatures, one of which is retained by remanent magnetism. Each armature 1a, 1b operates a contact stack 4, 5 by means of an actuator 10a, 10b and is pivoted on the end of the yoke 3 and retained by a bridge 7 and screw 8. The armature 1b is provided with a screw 9 to set the minimum gap between it and the core end 2 ensuring that it is released on de-energization, whilst the armature 1a has no such gap so that it may be retained in engagement with the core. The core, core end or armature 1a may be the member having the remanent magnetic properties. A reverse flux in the relay causes the release of the armature 1a before both armatures are re-attracted. The relay may have a single winding which has to be energized in the reverse direction to release armature 1 or it may have two windings with a resistance to limit the current in the release winding to a value insufficient to cause the re-attraction of the armatures. In either case the contacts of the stack 4 may be connected in the energizing circuit to set the relay for release. Specification 897,523 is referred to.
