Abstract
897,506. Geophysical prospecting. HUNTING SURVEY CORPORATION Ltd. Feb. 8, 1960 [June 9, 1959], No. 4374/60. Class 40(7), Relates to the production of records showing substrata reflections or refractions of waves generated, e.g. by a hammer and plate or an explosive, on the earth's surface and received by a geophone. According to the present invention the recording marker moves across a record chart at constant speed whilst the chart is stationary during receipt of signals by the geophone and manual means enable the chart to be moved laterally by an amount proportional to a change in distance between the wave source and the geophone. In the embodiment described geophone 13 output after amplification and filtering is applied to recorder pen carrier 19 carried along guide bars 20, 21 by worm 22 driven by constant speed motor 23 via magnetic clutch 24 actuated in synchronism with seismic wave generation. A pawl 25 is provided to afford disengagement of the pen carrier from the worm drive for manual return to its starting position. Manual feed roller 17 is also provided and chart 18 is calibrated in time transversely and distance laterally, a cross-section record thus being obtained as the seismic source or geophone is moved to different positions, Fig. 4 (not shown).
