Abstract

1506189 Marine seismic exploration TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 26 June 1975 [18 July 1974] 27051/75 Heading G1G In principle, a marine seismic exploration method consists in separately recording high, medium and low frequency acoustic reflexions from strata below the sea bed at correspondingly increasing depths, the reflexions resulting from a controlled transmitting pulse. As claimed a method for making a simultaneous survey at three different maximum depths of investigation below the sea bed comprises the steps of transmitting a controlled sharp-peaked impulse into a body of water, receiving reflected acoustic energy in at least three different frequency bands and generating corresponding signals, filtering said signals into at least three bands and recording the filtered signals simultaneously as a function of time. As described, an air gun 13 produces a controlled impulse, echos being received by hydrophones in a streamer cable 18 having a short 15, medium 16 and long 17 section mainly responsive to 100- 250Hz, 30-100Hz and 10-30Hz bands respectively. The received response signals are filtered clean of other frequencies and are then fed to recorders, Fig. 3 (not shown). In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the sections 15, 16, 17 are separated.
