In Fig. 1 a capacitor (which may be electrolytic) is enclosed in a seamless cylindrical aluminium can 2 whose open end is closed by a terminal plate 4 held between an annular groove of the can and the edge thereof swaged over a resilient washer 7. In manufacture, aluminium rivet 8 is passed through a punched out washer 10 of e.g. brass having two or three equally-spaced outwardly extending fingers 11, 12 (Figs. 2, 3, not shown), and through holes in the plate 4, washer 7, length 15 of aluminium foil connected to one electrode of the capacitor, and aluminium washer 17; over which the end 19 of the rivet is deformed. A similar terminal arrangement is riveted through a hole in the base 22 of the can and the fingers 11<1>, 121 of washer 101 are bent over the rivet head so that their ends are parallel and directed away from the can to embrace an e.g. copperconnecting wire 26 to which they are soldered. In modifications (Fig. 4, not shown), the washer fingers are bent inwardly over the rivet head to point towards the can, inserted in a recess of the head together with a connecting wire, and soldered thereto (Fig. 5, not shown); the washer is placed outwardly against the rivet head and its fingers bent over the latter to lie between it and the terminal plate; the hole in the washer registering with a recess of the rivet head into which a connecting wire is inserted and soldered.
