Abstract

897,135. Making turbine blades; extruding; die-rolling; forging. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 26, 1959 [May 28, 1958; Oct. 9, 1958], No. 23013/61. Divided out of 897,133. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Apparatus for making an airfoil blade from a blank 10 having an airfoil section 10a, Fig. 7, merging by a transition region 10t with a base portion 10b, comprises a pair of oppositely disposed thrust members 25, 26 pivoted at 27, 28 to a base 30 and having die surfaces 14a, 15a for engaging the transition region 10t, whereby when a compressive force 17 is applied to the base 10b the thrust members rotate about their pivots in opposite directions and cause the die surfaces to squeeze opposite faces of the transition region and form fillets 10#. The blank 10 is preferably made by extrusion. Fig. 2 (not shown). The apparatus is identical with that described in Specification 897,133.
