Abstract
In a process for the production of stabilized linear polyamides, a solid product obtained by condensation of aminoacids, which product contains terminal amino and carboxyl groups, is subjected in a comminuted form or in a form having a large surface area with respect to mass at a temperature between 80 DEG C. and 100 DEG C., to a treatment with aqueous solutions of one or more reagents capable of blocking the active terminal groups, selected from the group comprising monocarboxylic acids having not more than seven carbon atoms, polycarboxylic acids having not more than six carbon atoms and organic bases after which the treated product is dried. Low molecular weight products may be removed from the polyamides prior to treatment by the process of the invention by leaching with hot water. In an embodiment of the process of the invention, the leaching out and stabilizing may be effected simultaneously. Specified polyamides are those derived from aminocaproic acid, E-caprolactam and aminoundecylic acid. Specified aftertreating reagents are acetic, formic, propionic, benzoic, adipic, tartaric and citric acids, propylamine, benzylamine and triethanolamine. In the examples poly-E-caprolactam in the form of chips with:- (1), (3) and (4) benzoic acid, (2) acetic acid and (5) benzylamine.
