Abstract

1,197,672. Purifying fatty acid amides. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 25 April, 1969 [26 Jan., 1968], No. 4170/68. Heading C2C. Washed higher fatty acid amides of lower aliphatic amino monocarboxylic acids having hydrogen atoms directly attached to the amino nitrogen atom, contaminated with free fatty acids, are purified by drying the washed material by heating it under reduced pressure. The higher fatty acid amides may be obtained by condensing acyl halides of the fatty acids with salts of the appropriate amino acids in the presence of acceptors for the hydrogen halide liberated in the condensation reaction, acidifying the product mixture and washing to remove water-soluble salts.
