Abstract
896,507. Digging root crops. VYZKUMNY USTAV ZERREDELSKYCH STROJU PRAHA. Jan. 23, 1959 [Jan. 28, 1958; April 12 1958; June 7, 1958], No. 2504/59. Class 6(3). [Also in Group XXX] A tractor-mounted agricultural elevator attachment adaptable for use as a compost digger, manure distributor or harvester e.g. for potatoes or sugar beet, comprises a double T-shaped tubular frame 28, Fig. 8, pivotally mounted at its upper end for swinging in a vertical plane on a three-element hydraulic lift linkage 27 of the tractor, and an endless conveying element 2 comprising a pair of endless chains 29, Fig. 10, passing around sprocket wheels carried by the frame 26 and between which are detachably secured cross-rails 23 each provided with means for the selective attachment of a number of different conveying or digging elements. In one embodiment, Fig. 4, the elements comprise rows of pins 3<SP>1</SP> for elevating sugar beet or potatoes to a transverse belt conveyer 12 carried by brackets from the linkage 27 and driven from the elevator. The sugar beet or potatoes are picked up by a fork member placed in advance of the conveying element 2 and comprising series of long and short prongs 13, 14 each having a thickened end portion 14. A ploughing share 16 is arranged end portion 14. A ploughing share 16 is arranged at the lower end of the elevator to level the ground. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the fork member is omitted and the pins 411 are replaced by claws adapted to engage loose material, e.g. hay or manure, when the lower end of the elevator is moved into a pile of the material. The transverse conveyer 12 may be replaced by a distributer disc 17, Fig. 7, mounted on a shaft 19 driven from the elevator, the disc having points 18 for engaging and scattering material, e.g. manure, to either side of the tractor. In a further embodiment, Figs. 8 and 10 the elevator comprises a pair of endless chains 29 between which are mounted cross-rails 23, the rails 23 being prevented from turning by plates 38 welded to them and engaging in the chains. The chains travel over top and bottom pairs of sprocket wheels 28, 30 and intermediate tensioning wheels 31 which divide the conveying run. The material is elevated along a plate 33 by claws 24 detachably attached to the rails 23 and is transferred to a transverse belt conveyer 34 by a guide roller 36 and plate 39. A suitable type of claw is selected depending on the material being handled. One type of claw disclosed, Fig. 11, comprises two short prongs 43, a plate 44 welded across them and a long prong 45 welded to the plate 44. Several other types of claws are also shown. Where rows of pins are used instead of claws as in Fig. 4 these may be supplemented by pusher blades 53, Fig. 27 of resilient material.
