896,339. Nuclear power plant. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. july 1, 1958 [July 1, 1957], No. 20775/57. Class 39(4). [Also in Group XIII] A long heavy rigid body is mounted in a ship by one support at which it is held rigidly and another support at which it can move along the length of the ship. A concrete biological shield 1 is attached by bearing rings 2, 3 to bulkheads 6 stiffened parallel to the length of the ship and to bulkheads 7 which can flex parallel to the length of the ship, the bulkheads being welded to main structural beams 8, 40. The shield contains a pressure vessel 12 enclosing a reactor core 11, a concrete shield 13, heat exchangers 14, 15, 16 for steam generation, a blower 17 driven by a steam turbine 35, and an inner vessel 22 carrying a grid 23. A thermal shield 39, a steel collar 38 at the blower shaft, and a loading platform 21 are provided. The coolant is gaseous. Water enters heat exchanger 16 by pipe 32 and wet steam leaves to a drum 24 which has water outlets 30, 31 to a pump 29. Exchanger 15 has an inlet from the pump and an outlet to the drum. Exchanger 14 has steam inlet 25 from the drum and an outlet 26 for superheated steam.
