Abstract

Saturated amorphous polymers and copolymers of alpha-olefins with each other and/or with ethylene are vulcanized with the aid of organic percompounds, in the presence of an acid filler, and a quinonic compound of the general formula:- <PICT:0896309/IV (a)/1> or <PICT:0896309/IV (a)/2> in a proportion of 0,01 to 15 parts by weight per 100 parts of polymer. The vulcanization may also be effected in the presence of sulphur. The acid fillers which may be used are those which in aqueous suspension have a pH below 7 such as silica, silicates, kaolin, clay, active earths and channel carbon black. The quinonic compound may be p-benzo-quinondioxime, o,o1-dibenzoyl-p-benzoquinondioxime, or p-nitrosophenol. Exemplified percompounds are cumyl-tert. butyl peroxide, and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(tert. butyl peroxi)-hexane. Examplified copolymers are ethylene-propylene, and ethylenebutene.
