896,108. Hinges and pivots. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Aug. 23, 1960 [Aug. 24, 1959], No. 29069/60. Classes 65(1) and 65(2). A car bonnet hinge comprises a bracket 15 fixed to the vehicle pivoted to which at 19, 23 are two arms 21, 24 which in turn are pivoted at the opposite ends to a bracket 35 carrying the bonnet and a link 37 at 33 and 38, the other end of link 37 being pivoted on the bracket 35. The arms 21, 24 are connected by a member having a cylindrical part 26 journalled in the arm 24 and a smaller cylindrical part 29 which fits into a hole on the arm 21, the two parts 26, 29 being eccentrically mounted with respect to one another. The tension spring 42 is fixed to the lever 24 at 38 and to the bracket 15 at 44 and is arranged such that it counterbalances the weight of the bonnet in the open position and helps to keep it closed in the closed position.
