Abstract

896,090. Upholstery. DAIMLER BENZ A.G. Sept. 27, 1960, No. 33171/60. Class 52(4) Upholstery for a vehicle seat 1 comprises a textile fabric overlay 4, 5, covering the seating and backrest surfaces and welded along side, front and rear edges 2, 6 to thermoplastic sheet material covering, the side, front and rear surfaces 7, 3 of the seat, the weld, effected by heating the plastic and overlapping the fabric and the plastic, is visible as a decorative line 8. The lower edge of the plastic is folded and welded at 9 to provide a strip 10 secured in a groove 11 in the seat frame by a flexible strip 12 of cardboard &c. and a clamp 13 detachably secured to the seat frame. In modifications a folded edging 14 or beaded strip is welded in at the line of connection of the fabric, with the plastic and as shown in Fig. 3 a second strip 15 is welded to the strip 10. In a further modification shown in Fig. 6 the plastic sheet 21 extends over the seating and back surfaces beneath a padded overlay 22, welds being made at 23 along front, sides and back, and along lines 24 between the corrugations.
