Abstract

The invention comprises 6-fluoro steroids of the general formula <FORM:0895842/IV (b)/1> (in which X is keto or b -hydroxy, Y is hydrogen, chlorine or fluorine, R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon carboxylic acyl group of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, and Z is a single or double linkage) together with a process for their preparation by one or more of the procedures (taken in any order) comprising dehydrogenating the corresponding D 4-compound by refluxing it in any desired order with selenium dioxide to form the D 1-double bond, with chloranil in xylene to form the D 6-double bond or with chloranil in n-amyl alcohol to form either the D 1-double bond when the D 6-bond is present, or the D 6-double bond when the D 1-bond is present, or both the D 1- and D 6-double bonds when neither is present.
