Abstract

The invention comprises cyclopentanophenanthrene compounds of the general formula <FORM:0805564/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents <FORM:0805564/IV (b)/2> or = O, and R1 represents hydrogen or the hydroxy radical, and the preparation thereof by reacting hexahydrobenzoic acid halide, e.g. the chloride or bromide, or hexahydrobenzoic acid anhydride with the required 21-hydroxy substituted cyclopentanophenanthrene compound in the presence of an organic tertiary base, e.g. pyridine, or by reacting hexahydrobenzoic acid with the required 21-hydroxy substituted cyclopentano-phenanthrene compound in the presence of an esterification catalyst. In the examples the 21-hexahydrobenzoates of D 1,4 - pregnadiene - 17a ,21 - diol - 3,11,20 - trione and D 1,4 - pregnadiene - 11b ,17a ,21 - triol - 3,20 - dione are prepared.
