Abstract
895,287. Earth-excavating machines. ALLEN & SONS (OXFORD) Ltd., JOHN. June 30, 1960 [July 1, 1959], No. 22539/59. Class 68(1). Earth is cleaned from each bucket of a trench-digging bucket wheel or bucket ladder excavator as the bucket passes through a given sector of travel by a rotary paddle 26 that sweeps through each bucket along a path which is acutely inclined to the direction of movement of the bucket. Preferably the paddle has one or more pairs of blades 28a, 28b so mounted side by side that one blade sweeps through a bucket immediately after the other blade has done so. Each rigid or flexible pair of blades lie in a common plane extending radially of the axis of rotation of the paddle. When incorporated in a bucket wheel excavator the paddle is preferably associated with a bucket wheel such as described in Specification 895,288 which is referred to.
