Abstract

895,248. Magnetic storage devices. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 7, 1958], No. 25353/58. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXIX] A thin anisotropic magnetic film core such as Coo, which may be cylindrical (Fig. 1) or flat (Fig. 3) is set in a neutral remanent magnetization state by a sufficiently large pulse in an adjacent conductor such as row conductor Yo arranged parallel to its direction of easy magnetization to produce a magnetic field at rightangles to that direction. The core is thus prepared for the writing-in of information by a small signal in a column conductor such as Xo of a magnitude insufficient to disturb the state of a similar core such as Co1 in which the remanent magnetization has not been neutralized. The neutralizing and writing pulses may overlap. The matrix arrangement may comprise a single plane film with sets of row and column conductors at the intersections of which information is stored in the film. Read-out by resetting to the neutral state may be by large pulses in the neutralizing conductors such as Yo, large output pulses being obtained. Separate read-out conductors may be provided.
