Abstract
894,779. Bale sledges. CURLIGHT INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 24, 1960 [Aug. 27, 1959], No. 29378/59. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXX] A bale sledge comprises a base frame 3 and a bale fork unit mounted on the frame so as to be movable from a substantially horizontal position to an inclined position, and means for moving the unit between these two positions, said bale fork unit comprising a plurality of equally spaced right-angled prongs 1 fixed to a common transverse roller 2. The roller is mounted on base frame 3 which has a platform 4 and skids 5, the inner prongs being braced by members 6 extending to collars 7 on the roller. Levers 12 are connected through links 13 to an adjustable rod 14, which is connected to the outermost prongs on either side by links 8, 9. In use, the sledge is towed with the fork unit in the horizontal position, the operator standing on a platform 4 and stacking the bales onto the prongs, the unit being inclined by depressing the levers 12 for unloading. In another embodiment the prongs 1 are rigidly attached to a rectangular bar replacing the roller and the tilting means comprises hinged plates and a linkage system. The bale fork unit may be removably mounted, and the number of prongs may be increased to alter the loading capacity. The tilting action may be operated hydraulically e.g. from a tractor, and the sledge used for picking up bales.
