Abstract

894,259. Scaffolding. NICHOLLS, J. W., and MARTIN THOMAS Ltd. Aug. 31, 1960 [March 9, 1960], No. 8311/60. Class 20(2) A scaffolding unit comprises two upright rectangular frames 1-4, 5-8, bars 9, 10 pivotally connected to the lower end of one frame and the upper end of the other and a strut 37 extending between the upper ends of the frames which can be removed to allow the unit to be collapsed to a flat pack. The unit is held collapsed by catches 22, 24. One or more further units 2a are erected by spigot and socket joints 70 on top of the first unit and locked by plungers 18. Diagonal struts 39, 40 also connect the frames and a platform 26 is hooked to the top bars 3, 7 of the frames. Steps 11 connect bars 9, 10 to form a ladder. The frames are braced by struts 12, 14, 15. The lowest unit has adjustable legs 29 with castors 33. A handrail unit 42 similar in construction to a scaffold unit is fitted to the top of the top unit and a hook 53 is used to hold it in collapsed position.
