Abstract

Polymers are prepared by copolymerizing 99 to 75% of at least one straight chain-alpha olefin having 2 to 10 carbon atoms with at least one conjugated diene of formula CH2=CH-CR1= CH2 where R1 is chlorine or fluorine, methyl, ethyl, propyl, acetoxy, chloroacetoxy, butyroxy or cyano, in a liquid halogenated hydrocarbon solvent at -30 to 10% using a coordination catalyst composed of aluminium triisobutyl and vanadyl chloride. Specified alpha olefins are ethylene, propylene, butene-1, pentene-1, hexene 1, octene-1 and decene-1 while isoprene, 2-ethyl-butadiene, 2-chlorobutadiene, 2-fluorobutadiene, 2-acetoxy-butadiene, 2-chloroacetoxy butadiene, 2-butyroxy butadiene, and 2-cyano-butadiene are specified dienes. Chlorobenzene, bromobenzene, fluorobenzene, o- and mdichlorobenzene, o-chlorotoluene, m-chlorotoluene and tetrachloroethylene, are specified solvents. Specification 893,461 is referred to.
