A plastic coated metal foil is produced by coating the foil over some or all of its exterior with a heat-sensitive bonding agent which is transparent and which has the property of being activated by heat so that on subsequent applications of hot transparent or translucent plastic material by extrusion, the bonding agent is activated and forms a bond between the metal foil and the plastic coating. The bonding agent may comprise a lacquer made from a thermoplastic material, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, nitrocellulose or cellulose acetate butyrate, which is compatible with the material of the plastic coating. The foil may be aluminium foil and the plastic coating may be formed from cellulose acetate butyrate. Specification 801,934 is referred to.
