Abstract

891,853. Gas filters. COOPER'S MECHANICAL JOINTS Ltd., WITCHELL, S. P., and STREETE. C. M. May 21, 1959 [June 13, 1958], No. 19048/58. Class 8(2). A gas e.g., air filter comprises a casing 31 having one or more peripheral ambient air inlets (not shown) and a vertically tapered longitudinally pleated filter element 26 of resin impregnated paper having its ends embedded in moulded annular caps 27, 28 in sealing engagement with the casing ; the incoming air being directed radially against the forward-bearing faces of the pleats and from which collected dust particles fall into the casing bottom. As shown cap 28 slides along a filtered air outlet duct 35 and a flange 29 of cap 27 is clamped between a casing shoulder 30 and a cover 32. In a modification the pleated element is folded back on itself forming portions 18,19, Fig. 2, of the Provisional Specification having moulded integral end caps 5, 7 located in a single plane and clamped between a casing shoulder 4 and cover 6. In operation dust-laden air entering through arcuate slots 2 traverses spaces 21, 22, the element portions 18, 19, or clean air space 20 and apertures between the end caps 5, 7 leading to an outlet duct 9.
