Abstract

A copolymer of an endo-diene bicyclohydrocarbon and a C10H16 terpene is prepared by reacting the mixture in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. Bicyclo-(2.2.1)-2.5-heptadiene and alpha and beta-pinenes, turpentine and dipentene are specified monomers, while aluminium chloride, boron trifluoride, zinc chloride and tin tetrachloride are specified catalysts. Solvents such as gasoline, petroleum ether, cyclohexane, heptane, benzene, toluene, methyl chloride, methylene chloride, chloroform, and tetrachloroethane may be present or absent and the polymerization may take place at -10 DEG C. to 70 DEG C.
