Abstract
891,636. Corrugating wire. SAGINAW WIRE PRODUCTS Inc. March 2, 1960, No. 7451/60. Class 83 (4). Wire-bending machine comprises slide housings mounted on a frame assembly adjustable longitudinally thereof, die slides in the housings and movable transversely to the wire to be bent by mechanical advantage exerting means for individually actuating each of said die slides in predetermined sequence, dies supported by the frame assembly opposing said die slides. The lowermost wire or wires W in a trackway 91, formed between plates 84a, 84b, is carried by notches 96 in swingable arms 93 to a position between stationary dies 81 and die blocks 79 on die slides 77, the arms 93 being mounted on a shaft 94 rocked through linkages 99b, 97 and follower 50 by a cam 36 on a driven shaft 25. The dies 81 are fixed to slide housings 22 adjustable, longitudinally of the wire, along a guide rail 19 of the machine frame. The die slides 77 are guided in the housings 22 by pivotal blocks 110 with rounded edges 112 and are moved towards the stationary dies 81 by adjustable cams 24 on the shaft 25, each cam rocking a member 50, 53 to move a slide 23, in turn rocking a lever 68 pivoted at 69 and engaging the slide 77 at 78. Housings 21 for the slides 23 are adjustable along a guide rail 18 of the machine. In operation, a slide a is first moved forward to bend the wire and is retained in its forward position to hold the wire against its co-operating stationary die 81 while the other slides 77 are moved to complete the bending operation proceeding sequentially from the mid - portion of the wire W outwards to its ends.
