Abstract

890,961. Turret machine transfer devices. MULLARD Ltd. Feb. 27, 1959, No. 6913/59. Class 39(2) [Also in Group XXX] Articles for use in the manufacture of semiconductor devices, comprising a glass cap 13, Fig. 4, and a conductor 14 of ferro-magnetic material, are transferred at a position 4, Fig. 1, from a rotary disc 1 provided with a series of releasable holders 15, 16, to a rotary disc 5 having magnetic holders on its periphery comprising permanent magnets 9, Fig. 2. Each releasable holder consists of a cap 15 secured to an arm 18 pivoted at 19, and a platform 16 formed at the top of a housing 21 secured to an arm 24. At the transfer station 4, the arm 18 is raised by a cam track 20 so as to release the conductor 14 which is then attracted by the magnets 9 into the upper part of an adjacent V-shaped groove 11 in the periphery of the disc 5. Immediately after this occurs, a retaining pin 17 in the housing 21 is allowed to move downwards under the action of a spring 21 by a cam track 23 whereupon the cap 13 swings across to enter the lower part of the groove 11.
