Abstract

890,739. Loose-leaf binders. GENERAL BINDING CORPORATION. Nov. 24, 1958 [Feb. 13, 1958], No. 37794/58. Class 146(1) [Also in Group XXV] A binding element of flexible material comprises a backbone 10 having extending from one longitudinal edge thereof a plurality of fingers 11, 12 which are adapted to be curled to formaplurality of closed rings the backbone having spaced slots 15 adjacent the other longitudinal edge thereof which are fewer in number than the number of fingers the ends of those fingers 12 substantially aligned with the slots being insertable through the slots to interlock mechanically with the backbone. As shown two slots 15 are provided one adjacent each end of the backbone and the end fingers 12 are notched as indicated at 17 to interlock with the slots. Two slots and two fingers with notches can alternatively be provided at each end of the backbone and if desired one or more centrally located notches and corresponding notched fingers. The binding element can be made of vinyl resin, celluloid or other plastics materials or of paper.
