Abstract
<PICT:0890550/III/1> A catalytically-active composition for internal application to p airtight containers, whereby residual oxygen therein may be removed by introducing hydrogen into the container as it is sealed, comprises palladium in finely-divided form dispersed in an adhesive medium. Examples given are palladium-on-alumina powder dispersed in either a can internal-lacquer or a polyvinyl chloride plastisol. The coatings may be applied by brushing. Annular grooves 3 in the lid or bottom component 1 of a can are coated with a catalyst dispersion 2 in the form of one or more annular concentric layers by rotating the component past a nozzle from which the dispersion issues; after deposition the component is heated in an oven to gel the dispersion.ALSO:A catalytically-active composition (see Group III) for internal application to airtight containers (see Groups VI and XVII) comprises a palladium-on-alumina catalyst dispersed in a polyvinyl chloride plastisol.
