889,867. Washing bottles. CONSTRUCTION DE MATERIAL D'ALIMENTATION S.A. DE. Jan. 25, 1960 [Feb. 2, 1959], No. 2605/60. Class 138(1). Bottles are washed in a machine having nozzles 2, Fig. 3, each adapted to inject washing liquid to the lower end of the interior of a bottle so that the liquid overflows to clean the exterior as well as the interior of the bottle. The bottles are suspended by clamps from an intermittently moving conveyer chain 9, each bottle being stopped beneath a nozzle 2 which is moved downwardly into the bottle from a trough carrying washing liquid. Any labels removed from the bottles fall on to an endless conveyer to be taken away. In an alternative embodiment the bottles 8, Fig. 4, are fed on to the nozzles 12 which are attached to an endless conveyer 10, and the bottles are carried in an upright position by an endless conveyer 14 parallel to the lower run of the conveyer 10, the washing liquid being supplied from a trough 15. During their travel along the upper run of the conveyer 10 the bottles are inverted and sprayed with rinsing liquid by nozzles 20.
